To All of Our Northern Customers

In 2009, Northern Transportation Company Limited is offered a new additional freight delivery service to our customers in the Western Arctic and the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut.

In the 2010 shipping season, NTCL's service will again include carrying Northern Canada-bound cargo from a port on the West Coast of Canada. From there, a tug and ocean going barge suitable for moving large amounts of freight will sail north along the West Coast, around Point Barrow, Alaska and then into the Canadian Arctic. Deliveries will then be made to customers in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region and the Kitikmeot communities.

This new shipping service, which is designed to be a more cost effective way to deliver cargo to the Western Arctic and Kitikmeot regions, is in addition to, and complimentary to, NTCL's freight service from Hay River. It will not replace our traditional tug and barge service which will continue to be available to all of our customers.

NTCL would like to assure our customers that the Port of Hay River will continue to provide cargo and tug and barge services. As in the past, freight will be loaded at Hay River for delivery by tug and barge to northern communities. The Hay River Loading Terminal will be open to receive freight on May 1, 2010 and shipping will commence as usual in mid-June as weather and ice conditions on Great Slave Lake and the Mackenzie River allow.

Comprehensive information, including the shipping schedules, rates, and how customers can have their freight transported to the West Coast to utilize our new service, will be available in late January, 2010.
