These rates are for Government of Nunavut cargo and all non-government cargo for the Kitikmeot region, except for specially negotiated charter rates. For information about current shipping rates or for charter rates for tugs and barges, please call the Hay River office at (867) 874-5100.

These prices will be escalated annually at the greatest of 3% or the yearly inflation rate, as determined by Statistics Canada general CPI rate and will be also adjusted to reflect any change in fuel-related costs.

There will be a minimum rate per container of $6,500 if calculated revenues are less than this amount.

These prices will be escalated annually at the greatest of 3% or the yearly inflation rate, as determined by Statistics Canada general CPI rate and will be also adjusted to reflect any change in fuel-related costs.

Customers wishing to use NTCL containers are entitled to do so using NTCL’s standard container agreements.

RECYCLABLES- BACKHAUL

The price to transport recyclable cargo, from sites within the designated Area to NTCL’s Facilities shall not exceed 50% of the applicable Northbound rate(s). This percentage may be amended from time to time, during the term of the Agreement, as mutually agreed between the parties. Special consideration may be given for not-for-profit organizations at the sole discretion of the NTCL.

RETROGRADE

The prices to transport retrograde cargo from sites within the designated Area to the NTCL’s Facilities shall not exceed 50% of the applicable Northbound rate(s). This percentage may be amended from time to time as mutually agreed between the parties. Retrograde cargo will be accepted subject to the availability of space on the southbound trip.

SOLID WASTE

The prices to transport solid waste cargo from sites within the designated Area to NTCL’s Facilities shall not exceed 50% of the applicable Northbound rate(s). This percentage may be amended from time to time as mutually agreed between the parties. Solid waste cargo will be accepted subject to the availability of space on the southbound trip.

EMPTY DRUMS AND CYLINDERS

There will be a charge for each empty 204 litre (L) POL drums and propane gas, oxygen and acetylene cylinders, whether loose, palletized or crated, transported from sites within the designated Area to NTCL’s Facilities. This price may be amended from time to time as mutually agreed between the parties.

Empty drums and cylinders will be accepted subject to the availability of space on the southbound trip.

EMPTY CONTAINERS

There will be a lump sum price to transport each empty metal I.S.O. standard type container, measuring up to 6.71m (20 feet), from certain sites in the designated Area to NTCL’s Facilities. This lump sum price may be amended from time to time as mutually agreed between the parties.

There will be no additional price to return NTCL containers that are the subject of an NTCL rental contract. There will be no charge to backhaul empty non-NTCL containers where the container has been hauled northbound by NTCL and returns to its point of origin within the same shipping season.

In the remainder of circumstances, non-NTCL containers will be subject to the following rates to return to NTCL’s terminus of voyage:

VEHICLES: CARS, PICK-UP TRUCKS AND PASSENGER VANS

The rate for vehicles transported from certain sites within the designated Area to NTCL’s facilities shall be a maximum of $1,500.00 each. This rate may be amended from time to time as mutually agreed between the parties.

LATERAL

NTCL shall charge the following price per tonne (t) of 1,000 kilograms (kg) or 2.5 cubic meters, based on weight or measurement whichever produces the greater revenue for all lateral cargo.

These rates reflect 65% of the cost of northbound traffic, and will be adjusted to reflect any inflationary or fuel-related adjustments that apply to the northbound rates. NTCL may be willing to negotiate lower rates based on short distances, volumes, and the availability of space.

MARINE FUEL ADJUSTMENT FACTOR

The cargo rates provided on this website are based on the current price of marine fuel. If the cost of fuel rises, NTCL may apply a fuel adjustment calculation to the above-quoted rates.

The marine fuel adjustment factor will be applied after any general inflationary factors have been calculated. This adjustment reflects NTCL’s increased cost of providing transportation services, and excludes any additional operating margins. This adjustment would be recalculated annually on February 1st and applied to the rates for the coming season.

HNS CARGOES ADJUSTMENT FACTOR

NTCL will transport hazardous goods for the standard northbound cost, plus the following additional fees:

For hazardous goods, the Northbound rates shall apply to northbound, southbound, and lateral cargo. Hazardous goods will be accepted only if they are packaged in compliance with all regulations, and palletized or otherwise suitable for handling with a forklift.

GOODS AND SERVICES TAX

The rates quoted are in Canadian dollars and exclusive of GST.

MINIMUM CHARGE PER SHIPPING REQUEST

There will be a minimum charge of $60.75 per shipping request. This will be applied to the transport of goods between any two shipping points.
