Positions:

SAFETY SPECIALIST

 
The above seasonal position (March to November) is located in Hay River, NT, and reports to the Manager, Occupational Health Safety and Environment. The successful candidate will provide support and field expertise to crews and supervisors as our organization ramps up for existing and future business opportunities. The incumbent will be responsible for OHS related training, which may include, confined space entry, fall prevention, lockout, fire extinguisher use, emergency response, respirator use, and coordination and administration of other training programs. Other responsibilities may include conducting work site inspections, incident investigations, employee orientations, risk assessments, ensuring the appropriate personnel are provided with environmental awareness and spill response training and will provide assistance in the assessment and management of environmental risk. The candidate provides procedural assistance in OHSE Program development initiatives, recordkeeping and with occupational health and wellness program administration. The incumbent assists in provision and administration of site security requirements. Travel to remote worksites may be required to carry out inspections and to provide training to personnel. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
 
The successful applicant must be able to work 8 – 12 hour shifts. Applicants should have training, proven skills and a knowledge base in occupational health and industrial hygiene, Industrial Safety, environment, training, quality control / assurance, security and/or emergency response and disaster planning. Preference will be given to accredited Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP) and National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designations. Experience in the marine industry is an asset.
 
Applicants must be able to wear a respirator / breathing apparatus with no restrictions, and must be able to work at heights and in confined spaces with no restrictions. Applicants will demonstrate professionalism in their communications with management, front line supervisors and trades people. A strong work ethic and team work skills will provide a basis for work in a very demanding, high-pressure environment. Excellent computer skills are required, as is the ability to write technical reports, manage multiple tasks, resolve conflicts and problem solve collaboratively. Must have the strong desire and ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including excellent follow-through skills, leadership, presentation and facilitation skills; experienced trainer.
